I just want my standard screw and spring system.

I really would prefer if it didn't become ubiquitous as I think it adds unnecessary extra weight to replace a feature that I actually prefer. Then again that's just my opinion and maybe if this does happen I'll be able to use my MS for the next ten years.
PREACH!

magnets are different behavior than springs as I read it. Springs are linear. Magnetic field changes with square of distance.
So it is not a 1:1 replacement but rather a different characteristic. I guess next years flagship might come with both springs and magnets.

Not all springs are linear. Yes, the classical F=Kx spring is a linear function but non-linear springs show up in all forms of physics and engineering. But yes, r^2 exists in the denominator for the simplified/theoretical calculation for force between a pair of separated magnets. F=u(q1q2)/(4πr^2).

I have wondered how this affects cube settings. A minute change in magnet separation has a more pronounced effect than compressing a typical spring the same amount, This means adjustment settings are larger in each step...Then again I've never really drank the "Having tons of settings is beneficial" kool-aide. I think alot of the setup is nonsense and more about a placebo effect of quality than measurable performance. Don't get me wrong, it' fun to have all the settings but sometimes it makes the whole cubing process a bit too much focused on hardware/technology and less on actual ability.
