I got my mini QJ 4x4 about 3 days ago. I tried it out and it was a bit tight. I disassembled it to find the screw, found it, loosened it by half a turn and put the puzzle back together again.

The outer layers move fine, as does the top and bottom half (when the face with the screw is in the top of the cube). The problem is that the other two layers aren't turning at all. I took some of the pieces out to see what the problem was but couldn't find anything. I put it back and it worked briefly, but locked up again.

Has anyone else had this problem and how did you fix it?

Thanks

umm... I don't have a QJ, but I do have a Mefferts. Since mefferts has the same mechanism, I had a similar problem.

I noticed my first mefferts 4x4 was very tight and I decided to take it apart.
When I dissasembled the cube for the first time I saw the screw, I was trying to adjust it (because it's tight) and I loosen it quarter a turn I assembled the cube, it wasn't fine. it locks up very often and it was very loose.

I Tighten it quarter a turn and I want to know what happens. It was fine again.

so I think adjusting won't work actually. It makes the cube locks up often. Don't adjust it then. The reason why is yours lock up (I think) it's because half a turn may be too much. The core may rotate. that's why you can't turn 2 layers. so yeah don't adjust it, it won't work. You can just working it and lubricate it. Hope this help

I've worked it out!
I loostened the screw, however the side of the core with the screw had separated from the side the screw was supposed to be in. As a result part of the core was turning whenever I moved the outer layers. I've fixed this now and it's all guuuuurd.

Thanks guys :)

There are two little rivets (male and female) that keeps the two core halves aligned. If you loosen the screw, the rivets can come apart and the core's hemispheres will separate and cause lock ups.

Your cube's smoothness will increase as you break it in.

Just break it in!

At first, when I got my mini QJ, it sucked and I didn't use it that much (mini QJs weren't popular at that time, so I thought its just a crappy cube XD). Then I took it with me for a class trip, and after 2-3 solves it began to become loser and smoother . . .

Now its really f*%§ing awesome ;)
