Method for Solving 4x4 Centers

I am pretty new to speedsolving the 4x4x4 cube. I started off with Pogobat's 4x4 tutorial, but the inefficiency of his reduction method left me quite disappointed.

Last night, while cubing I discovered what was to me a new way to solve 4x4 centers. Here's the method:

  1. During inspection, decide which center is easiest to start with and then solve that by making 2x1 blocks (like any other method)
  2. Assuming that the solved face is on the bottom, completely solve one of the middle layers
  3. If the middle layer you solved is closer to the top, reposition the 2x1 blocks so that they are closer to the bottom
  4. Solve the middle layer closer to the top

In the last step there are 6 cases for each middle layer color:
1. The other 2x1 block is formed in the top layer and needs to be brought down. This is easily done.
2. The other 2x1 block is formed and in the middle layer. Just align the 2 2x1 blocks
3. One of the center pieces is in the top layer and needs to be brought down. Again, this is easily done.
4. Both the remaining centers are in the middle layer but are not connected. This may involve messing up 2x1 blocks from the previous step and then restoring them.
5. Both the centers are in the top layer but are not connected. This is the most complicated case.
6. The center is already solved. This is fairly rare.

I can post the [very primitive] algorithms I developed.

My question is, "Is this new, or has someone already thought of this before"?

I must stress the fact that I do not know much about the 4x4 cube, and this do not know if this method was already created by someone else. I hope that this does not invite criticism if indeed it is not new.

Thanks!

OK. Thanks.

Mr. Pochmann, if you see this, I did not try to copy/rename your method. I apologize for the misunderstanding.
