Megaminx with as few algorithms as possible

I got a Megaminx a few months back. For the most part, it is pretty easy to solve. It is basically like doing the F2L on a 3x3 a bunch of times.

I have trouble with the last layer, however. I don't really feel like learning a bunch of algorithms. I understand the concept behind the PLLC and can do that just fine, but I can't figure out the concept behind the PLLE.

Also, is there a "one algorithm fits all" kind of thing for the OLLC? With the 3x3, the OLL can be done using just the sune and anti-sune. Is there something like this for the Megaminx?

I just use commutators (or was it conjugates) for the megaminx LL. I take it a generalized Sune would work for orienting corners. Experiment with various degrees of U, U' inbetween the R's... Haven't tried it myself, really, but it should work.

For permuting edges I just do R2 L2' (okay I don't know MM notation) F2' R2' L2, adjust U repeat but with F2 instead of F2' ... and just keep going. Alternate F2 and F2', the rest of the minx will be restored when the edges are good.

Using Erik's site, I just "learned" all the cases where you can use 3x3 algorithms. For EO I use F RUR'U' F' and F URU'R' F'. I use all 7 of the COLLs. For EP, I use J, Y, and T. For CP, I just use RDR' commutators. I average around 3 minutes with one of the crappy chinese megaminxes.

I only use 2.5 algs for the last layer and it takes me about 35/40 seconds on a crappy chinese megaminx.

Edge-Orientation: FRUR'U'F' (and FURU'R'F')
Edge-Permutation: RUR'URU2R' (and anti-sune)
Corner-Permutation: No alg, but it works like this (R'D'R) U (R'DR) U (R'D'R) U2' (R'DR)
Corner-Orientation: Not really an alg, but it works like this (RUR'U')*2 D (RUR'U')*2 D (RUR'U')*2 D2'

Example (White on U, Green on F, Purple on L, Red on R, Yellow on D)
Scramble: F U R U R' U2 F' U2 F U' F' L' U L U L' U2' R U R' U R U2' R' L
Edge-Orientation: U2' (F R U R' U' F')
Edge-Permutation: (R U2 R' U' R U' R') U' (R U R' U R U2' R') U'
Corner-Permutation: (R' D' R) U2' (R' D R) U2' (R' D' R) U (R' D R) U2 (R' D' R) U (R' D R)
Corner-Orientation: z2 (Green on F, White on D) (RUR'U')*2 D' (RUR'U')*2 D' (RUR'U')*4 D' (RUR'U')*4 D3

P.S. (RUR'U')*4 can also be done as (URU'R')*2

the LL is very easy to solve on megaminx using common sence.
For Edge orientation you can use the same 2 algorithms as on 3x3: FRUR' U' F' and its inverse, of course you know this ;)
Edge permutation can be done with RUR'URU2'R' like things or a J perm: R' U2' RUR' U2LU' RUL'
Corner orientation: get an unsolved corner at URF position and repeat: F'RFR' untill it is correctly oriented, then make a U move to get another to the URF position and repeat.
Then Corner orientation is very simple read about it on my megaminx site: http://erikku.er.funpic.org/rubik/megaminx_index.html
You don't have to learn the algorithms to solve it and with knowing the ones on my site you won't be able to solve every seperate step in one algorithm either.
Good luck

A'ight. Thanks for the tips, everyone. I'll try this stuff out tomorrow, since I don't want to wake everyone up with my horribly loud Megaminx at 3:00 AM. Time for sleep.

I too solve the last layer in the order of (1) orient edges (with side effects, the way you would do for 3x3 OLL edge orientation), (2) permute edges using Sune, (3) permute corners (I use Niklas here), (4) orient corners (using a monoflip/commutator concept like Dan Brown's corner twister). These algorithms are not too hard to discover and remember, and are not very complex.
