Hi guys,

Does anybody have any advice for removing the tiles of a Mefferts Megaminx? Right now I am just trying to scrape them off using a razor blade, but am having little success. They are REALLY stuck on there. Any advice?

Pop it in the freezer overnight and scrape them off is something I would try... Your puzzle will need to be re-lubed, but eh, that should make the adhesive of the glue weaker.

Haha, wow, I didn't realize it was such a big deal. ;) I simply prefer the feel of stickers compared to tiles. Also, the colors of the cubesmith stickers are much, much better for me that the standard tiled colors. Instead of different shades of red and green, which I always mix up, Cubesmith has gold and silver; also, cubesmith's shades of blue are much easier to differentiate (I mix those up too). Anyway, I am almost done "shaving" my Megaminx. I have one more side to go. It is extremely tedious to do this, but I think the end result will be worth it, in my own opinion of course ;)

Sorry to double post, but I have another question now. So now I have taken my Megaminx apart, changed the springs, lubed it, re-assembled it, removed the tiles, adjusted the tension of the springs, and re-stickered it (the cubesmith Megaminx stickers are great). Now my Megaminx moves MUCH better than it did before and looks much cooler, but now it locks up... a lot. Does anybody (Erik?) have any tips for fixing this? I was thinking I could sand the corners of the edges down since that is where things always get stuck.

I just really want my Megaminx to be great because I think it is a lot of fun to solve this puzzle and I would really like to get faster with it.

I apologize to anyone I may have offended by removing the tiles ;)

Hey,
personally I never had trouble with mine locking up a lot to be honest. Do you know if you have the same springs/washers as Stefan? Anyway sanding the minx is always good idea, just don't go too far. Good luck on speedminxing! But please don't get too fast ;) as you are more than fast enough with 3x3 already xD
