Actually the solve went as follows (he used Winter Variation)
Cross: D L U' Rw'
F2L#1: y R U' R'
F2L#2: U' R' U R
F2L#3: y2 U' R' U' R
F2L#4 (WV): R U2 R' U R U2 R'
*full LL skip with no AUF)

That's not how the solve was executed. It could have been done like that, but Max did not do it that way. Thanks for bumping a 1 year old thread anyway.

In athletics the decathlon is a separate event to the 100m yet if you broke the 100m WR during the decathlon it would count as an official 100m WR. Pretty sure there has even been mile races where timers were set up so the first 1500m would have counted as a WR should the time be fast enough. Ignoring an official 3x3x3 sub WR time would be ludicrous though certainly not the only ludicrous thing in speedcubing. I think there needs to be some common sense applied to these things.

OH is a different event from 3x3. The 100m in a decathlon is the same as a 100m race. Your analogy is flawed.

Also why do you bring this up even? This was 1.5 years ago and nobody is debating this lol.

I agree Carter, was about to ask the same thing, especially since right above that Kit thanks the other post for bumping the thread...meaning why are people still talking about this, lol.

Even if it was WR for 3x3, the solve couldn't count for 3x3 because he was slowing himself down by using one hand on purpose, resulting in a dnf for 3x3.
If we're going to be pedantic about it, then this is true only if it can be proven that using one hand on purpose is known to actually slow him down. Otherwise he can claim that he knew on inspection that this would be a faster solve if he used one hand, so he was solving it the best possible way and rule a1c does not apply.
