It would be very distracting, but personally, if I was the slower BLD solver, I wouldn't mind if it was a world record. Seriously, someone next to you just got a WR and you'd get pissed off at cheering? If you avergae 3 minutes, BLD probably isn't one of your main events anyway, and if it is, you get two other attempts.

a WR is just a competition PB for fast people. my 10.55 second single in competition is, to me, as important as mats' 5.55.

Personally I don't get disturbed by noise during BLD. I put my ear defenders on and I'm in my own little bubble of solitude.

I think they got caught up in the moment. They knew it wasn't right, because afterward, they started shushing each other. Also, the guy solving has ear muffs handy, and chose not to use them.

that doesn't matter because at this moment, 10 seconds is the best i can do so it is of the most importance to me. now i agree that a WR solve may feel more important, but that is irrelevant seeing as i can/have not experienced it. so, a 10.55 PB to me = maximum level of importance i can feel; an X.XX WR to record holder = maximum level of importance said record holder can feel. since maximum = maximum, my statement is not false. it would have been false if i hadn't added, "to me".

Why think of it in terms of what the solver can feel? If you get a PB, you feel it. If a WR holder gets a PB, the entire community feels it. But in the context of whether or not people should clap, then I do agree with you. They shouldn't.
