Want to try this to eliminate spring creak completely and permanently!

Has anybody here tried it - how did it work out?

(Very funny dude in the background!)

Look up legoboyz3 on yt, he has a vid on it
Thanks bro - found his video:

It's not a detailed tutorial but it doesn't seem too complicated, and he gives a link to the magnets he used =

Found a Reddit thread as well full of good info = https://www.reddit.com/r/Cubers/comments/69ocga/maglev_what_it_is_how_it_works_and_how_you_do_it/

Pretty sure magnets aren't free either. Still sounds cool though (maglev).
Text from YT video about maglev:
"This means when you're turning accurately, the tension will be lower, so the cube is FASTER, but when you start to mess up a turn and flex the cube, the tension is higher, so the cube is MORE STABLE."

Hi, im a big fan of MagLev myself and one of the few people who are activly modding cubes to have MagLev.
I made a tutorial about it on reddit a while back, if you want you might wanna look into it!

I bought the magnets that you recommended but it wouldn't fit the Gans Air unless I drill down the supporting beam in the center pieces. The magnets are too large and there is not enough space to put in the screw nuts. Even the 356 nuts aren't small enough, let alone the dissembled GES screw nuts. Am I supposed to drill down the beam, as it is not mentioned in your reddit post?

Ok, so the tension having a squared relation instead of linear could perhaps benefit speedcubing. It makes a lot of sense, actually. We still need top speedcubers to test it though.

However, the second reason given (core having less friction) seems absolutely stupid. Why does it matter that the core has less friction if 99% of the friction happens between the cubies anyway? o_O

Yes I forgot to mention that... Im going to rewrite it anyway.

I think you underestimate how much difference it makes. I would say that the springs make up 25-40% off the friction and when thats removed you can notice a strong speed increase. MagLev made most of my cubes noticable faster and some even uncontrollable.

Of course you are experiencing a strong speed increase! But that is because of the reduced tension, which reduces friction force between cubies, not because of less friction in the core.

Just by seeing for how long the core with springs keeps turning after the stop blowing on it, you can tell there is already very little friction there, even with springs.
