A while ago, I used to suck at look ahead on the real cube and was good at it on the ryanheise simulator. I was able to average 25 seconds on the simulator, and 30 on the real cube. I had relatively few pauses on the simulator and lots on the real cube. Then, I got my average down to 21 seconds on the simulator and 27 on the real cube.

Now, I'm at 23 on the real cube. When, I'm focused, I can get very consistent 20-22 second solves for about 3-8 solves all with great look ahead. Then, I get bored and start to do some sort of petrus like solves. On the simulator, I start to vary a lot each solve. One solve can be 18 seconds, and the next can be 30. Sometimes, I can't seem to look ahead. I end up with 23-27 averages.

On the 4x4, it's even worse. I can only average about 50 seconds on the 3x3 part. The ES turns pretty well actually.

What's wrong? The feeling isn't actually significant when solving the 4x4. I can feel like the look ahead is good too, but the time just sucks. I can't predict my times on feeling during the solve nowadays.

Generally, whenever I do bad, it's because I can't concentrate that well. Listening to music (with some in-canal earphones, or noise-cancelling earphones) always helps, because the noise-cancelling earphones help block out the noise of the cube, which I've realized can sub-consciously be kind of distracting, and you can concentrate on the cube. Try it, but I'm not guaranteeing anything; everyone has their own thing.
