this new technique that (what I can remember of) Lofty and Dene ar making was outstanding in a one of movecount! BTW if you didn't know it is petrus to a 2x2x3 block, finish cross then F2L one slot (intuitive is the best (: yay) MGLS the last then simple OLL,PLL. Now A way to make this better I thought was to make instead of MGLS//PLL, do a ZB to finish. This would be a very good technique.
with M/O/PLL I got a move count of 42!!!! With Fridrich I got 58 :(... I am just here to ask if lofty and dene will put there new technique into the wild soon. Good job guys keep it up. ( I am expecting amazing sub 2 (with practise) MGLS.....)

Well... Its not an entirely new technique and you don't have it entirely right and me and Dene aren't doing it exactly the same...
I am doing as Petrus through 4a then put an edge in then CLS + PLL
Dene was going 2x2x3 to F2L minus one slot to full MGLS to PLL.
Move count= ~22 for F2L-minus a corner 9.5 for CLS and 12 for PLL so in actuality maybe just a few moves higher then you predicted. And the reason not to do a ZB finish: too many algs.
I mean with the stuff I just wrote I don't know what is really to put into the world its just a combination of stuff that is already there..
I have not even started memorizing this so don't expect anything from me soon. I know Dene has started... but don't give us too much credit for a new method...
Oh! And you don't finish cross then insert a last pair you just make that whole block however you can.
Edit: My movecount may be a little low since I was thinking of the numbers provided by Mr. Zborowski on his site for F2L-one slot. He says to to do it under 20 moves and he averages 18.5 I added the two moves to make a guess at inserting the edge. But i forgot I have to add moves to orient the edges... I suppose theorectically you can do petrus steps in about 5 moves each most of the start to average 20 moves plus the ones for adding an edge but at full speed its not likely, especially since Dene and I are new to Petrus.

Oh OK thanks!

Well seeing as this thread is as good as any, I'll put in any updates on how my work is going. I'll do an average or two now using a Petrus start (I've been a bit lazy with learning ELS lately, so that's still going to be a while). In fact I just learnt a new algorithm for ELS :) . I really need to start implementing them into my solves now though.

Hey so Lucas, I've just been doing solves using full MGLS with an old page I printed off, and I see that it is riddled with errors, are the new versions all fixed up, or might there still be mistakes in places?

How are you guys orienting edges? I've been doing it either before/during the cross, or doing the first through third pairs lately.

Also, how many cases does MGLS require total? In the spirit of using every ridiculous method in competition I can, I may have to learn this...

Like i explained in my first post I have been doing Petrus step 3 and Dene as been doing ELS which orients all edges. We are doing Petrus starts so we don't have a cross... If you do only the CLS part of MGLS you get some like 56algs plus mirrors for a total of 104 cases adding ELS you have 13 algs plus mirrors for 21 cases (see Lucas's site)

3.1 should be nearly completely correct.
I'm planning to create sheets with optimal and 2-gen algs, though. 3.1 has a lot of alternate algs so that if you like a mirror more, you have more options available on the sheet.

One question:
Is the current layout fine, or should I try sorting by top shape (15+mirrors) and location of the DRF corner (5)? (Tim Sun does it this way.)

I'm not quite sure what you mean, but I do have one problem with the layout. I'm not sure if there is a logical flow to the order in which you have the CLS cases, but, for example, with the first 26 cases with DFR corner at FUR/RFU there doesn't seem to be any real order to it. An obvious example would be number 24, which has one yellow corner on top in amongst others with no yellow corners on top. It would be much easier to recognise cases (I think) by what is on top, so maybe have first: the single case with all three yellow on top (already first!) then all the cases with 2 yellow corners on top (making sure that they are grouped together in order of position as well) etc etc, I'm sure you get the idea. This would make it much easier to find the particular case that you have, whereas currently I have to browse through each of them until I find what I'm looking for, which it seems could be anywhere.

You should apply that flow to the other 2 cases as well (corner at URF and FRD/RDF).

Also, it might be easier for recognition if you put the edges in the pictures as well. I'm not sure if you've experimented with that, but I think it might be more obvious which case you have if the edges are in there as well.

Another thing is, I don't think you should bother having COLL in there, if the learners don't already know COLL, then they really shouldn't be learning MGLS :) .

Inverses for ELS would be nice. I currently have them put on the back of my sheet and it's a mess >.< .

If I think of anything else I'll put it here.

Come on Dene its OCLL not COLL... tho if by chance I get the case I will do COLL since I know most of it.
The flow if pretty logical. Grouped by the bottom corner with the most corners oriented on the top of the list and then descending down. The disoriented corner even goes in a counterclockwise order.
Though I understand the flow I do agree with Dene that is easier to recognize with them organized the way he suggested.

Oh I see it now, yes ok.

Why OCLL and not COLL? It has COLL on the sheet, and it is technically COLL if the corners are lined up in a particular way...

It's all Macky's fault! Not mine! He came up with that taxonomy! It's all his fault! His, his, his, his, his! His! :p
Well, not exactly. But i never bothered to rethink it. It gives large categories, and made it easy to make a reference site.

His, not mine! ;)

Well, yes. Since COLL now universally refers to what I don't like it to refer to, I'm switching the title over to OCLL. But it's gradual, so some places still say "COLL".

how much less moves is MGLS compared to regular Last slot + OLL?
Let's say 0. Optimally, it's something slightly less than a move fewer twists (once you account for AUF).
However, most people would learn 2-gen algs instead, which actually takes a few more moves (but, nevertheless, is ridiculously faster).

Ever thought about making the 3x2x2 block Fridrich-style, then the rest like Petrus (edge orientation, F2L finish using R/U, COLL, PLL)? Block-building like Petrus bogs me down a bit so I thought of this.

You mean last slot + OLL . I guess that depends on the case etc. I don't see any particular reason for either to be faster, but the specifically 2-gen CLS should help.
