Hi there,

Im still fairly new to cubing and at thge moment im using a very beginner oriented method, the one that comes with the rubiks cube (pogobat/dan brown on youtube does a good video).

I can achieve times of about 1 minute 40 - 50 everytime. My main concern is that the last layer is a very slow process using this method, using a R' D' R D for all of the corners. If i get to a point where all 4 corners need fixing then it takes a long time.

I am aware of a method which requires learning 2 - 4 algorithms where you try to get a fish pattern then you can solve all of the top colour (OLL) then do PLL with a couple of other algs, but i can't seem to find any good videos on youtube to explain this well.

Could anybody give me any advice or links to some help about this last layer method.

Thanks a lot.

I had a look at that tutorial but it was difficult to make sense of the last layer bit, ill have another look and try to make sense of it.

EDIT : I now understand how to get all of the top colour but his explanation of pll is terribly hard to understand

OK, I am able to get times that are about 10-15 seconds slower than full OLL-PLL with my beginners method. It involves EO-EP, CP-CO. CO is done with R D R' D' stuff also. Everyone wants to just move to a new method before practicing the one they have. I would just keep working on you're method until you are at least sub 1. I'm able to use my beginners LBL method and average in the high 20s.

Just found a method for oll and pll which only involves learning 2 new algs on top of what i know

masterofbass, if i read it correctly you permutate corners before orientating them. am i right. Is it even possible to orient with R' D' R D?

Ok... Let me write my beginner's LL method.

1. Get the Cross on top with F R U R' U' F' or F U R U' R F'
2. Permute Edges with Sune
3. Permute the corners with Niklas
4. Orient corners with z' (U R U' R')x2 [L] (R U R' U')x2

Average: 27.91 seconds
Individual Times: 28.47, (23.01), 25.94, 29.38, 26.04, 26.30, 27.40, (32.64), 29.75, 30.01, 29.08, 26.71

Just did an average with my first ever learned method. The 23 was a CO skip.

no, sub means under. But, people usually use the 'sub' prefix in circumstances when they get a time just below the certain benchmark. I could say, my BLD times are always sub-3, even though I almost never get a time close to 3 min.
