[Unofficial] Koma, the LBL god, is sub-17!

May I ask what alg he uses for middle edge insertion? It's so fast I can't see it.

U R U' R' U' y L' U L

and for the last 4 moves (including the rotation) it can also be y' R' U R

Thank you, kind sir!

I am curious: Do any fast cubers use the R U R U R U' R' U' R' or is it considered a kindergarten alg?

Well, it is one of the first algorithms you learn but I would not call it a kindergarten algorithm. It is a legitimate algorithm for placing the edge into the middle-layer when you have finished all other slots. If you have a slot open I would just go ahead and use an empty slot move.

Alexander Ooms uses that alg and I teach the middle layer that way, but I prefer SexyMove+Front insert (RUR'U' F'U'F)

When Erik did the sub 20 average he used 4 look last layer, not "most OLL's" and full PLL.

Koma is "slow" at the cross and corners, but shows that he has perfect lookahead for the middle layer edges to create one long stream of turns to solve them all. Combined with his capability for high TPS I am not surprised to see him get times like this. With better corners, full OLL and faster PLL recognition he could easily reach a 15 second average

I'm getting Sub-25 and I use it. The one I originally learned is from Dan Brow's tut ( U R U' R' U' F' U F ) and later the modified version from Dan Harris ( U R U' R' d R U' R' )(both guys are 'Dan's ), and sometimes use that too. It depends on the angle I come across it at.

Btw I'm a Fridrich user so I only do this when a corner happens to be solved already.

Ah...for OH, that makes sense.

Also, for 2H, if you find yourself with the edge in RU and the target slot as BR, the 2-gen avoids a cube rotation (or some weird moves involving B). But I still don't always use it...I can't do it fast and I'll usually eat the cube rotation instead.

That looks fake to me. His hands seem to move too fast. (Not the cube turning speed, but the hand movements)

I don't know him though, it's just my opinion.

His turning speed and style reminds me of Nakajima and also, he wipes something off of the spacebar, which also happened in Yu's 10.xx average video...

I use it for OH - it's an optimal 2-gen.

I use that for 2H, because it is simply faster. Also, it is useful for BLD and speed BLD because it is just a 3-cycle of edges.

I just did 12 tries.

Average: 0.74
Standard Deviation: 0.16
Best Time: 0.47
Worst Time: 1.30
Individual Times: (1.30), 1.14, 0.80, 0.75, 0.69, 0.73, 0.61, 0.61, 0.80, 0.59, 0.64, (0.47)

Bad lockups for the first few tries. Realistic average is probably around 0.6, but during a real solve, I go a bit slower to lookahead.

Mirror alg:

Average: 0.89
Standard Deviation: 0.12
Best Time: 0.52
Worst Time: 1.42
Individual Times: 0.97, 0.80, 1.02, 0.89, (1.42), 0.92, 1.05, 0.97, 0.84, 0.81, 0.67, (0.52)
