Considering there's no real place to introduce yourself into the cubing community and have decided to just start a post here to introduce myself and see how it goes. Maybe this thread could be moved to a more appropriate section or just left here for discussion?

anyway...

I've been cubing now for close to a month and I think I'm progressing quite well, my first timed solves a month ago were around 2:30 with my friend's store bought. My first and only cube so far has been the stickerless Dayan Guhong and after a weeks practice with that my times got to around 1:10-1:20.

After a further 2 weeks my times were an average of 55.00-1:00.00 with solves of around 45 seconds being my best. In the past week I've got my pb at 35.05 and average around 45.

Since that I've started to learn Fridrich. I've learned 4Look Last layer and intuitive F2L though am getting my last layer better before incorporating F2L into every solve. Just today my averages have started to get around the same as my old Normal layer averages with a PB of 39.00 :). I've been pretty happy with my recent progress and plan to soon learn the rest of PLL then start working hard on F2L.

I guess I could turn this into more of a question by asking if you guys think that this is a good approach and a good way to continue to practice? Like first by learning the rest of PLL then start drilling F2L and trying to get better at it, cause atm if i use Fridrich's method of F2L my times are closer to 1:15-1:30.

Thanks for reading if you got the chance :) would be great to hear some feedback or tips :).

Well there is a 'member introductions' section...

But, to answer your question is yes, if you are enjoying it.

If you hate CFOP, then don't use it. Use Petrus or Roux etc- they are blockbuilding methods and require a little bit more thought. And that's where I enjoy it.
If you enjoy CFOP, and you enjoy the way you practice, it's the right kind of practice for you. You'll always improve faster when you enjoy yourself.

If you are sticking to CFOP, however, I recommend that you focus on F2L and gradually learn the PLLs and then OLLs. F2L is the most important step in CFOP, I've heard.

But what do I know? I use roux :D

Oh really? I've not seen the thread =S.

Sounds good, thanks for your advice. Maybe I will start to practice F2L more, it just slows me down soo much, I find myself taking ages to find and solve pairs.. I guess it'll become easier from practice though :).

I've been interested in trying Roux or Petrus though haven't been able to find many good links to learn them =S. But I think my main method will be CFOP, at least for a while anyway :).

I think it's
Off-topic discussion => member introductions

Try to solve without hesitating even if you have to go at like 1tps. Good luck :)

As for learning Petrus and Roux, I believe the sites of their respective inventors are great for learning.

Hmmk :). The java scripts on Petrus's site just don't load so I find it hard to follow. I think I'll stick to Fridrich for now but I'll check Roux out again soon cause it sounds pretty cool and I like M slicing :).

Thanks heaps :). I reckon this site should have a chat box, it'd be cool to just chat about cubing and learn from others :).

Oh wow thanks, I'm becoming more aware of this site and of the helpful people on it every day =D.
I've just been watching over my pb solve using fridrich and I find I really need to look ahead more, I still rarely stop but I do slow a fair bit between algs.
I also need to work on my finger tricks and turn speed a bit but it's ok :).
