Is Winter Variation worth it?

It's a great idea, Don't forget Mats got his 5.55 by using Winter Variation.

How are people still thinking that this is true? I know it's rumored alot, but if you look at the reconstruction its just the standard insertion to an OLL skip. Just because he frequently skips OLL doesn't mean he intentionally did it in a special way in that solve.

EDIT: On a related note, maybe its time for the alg.cubing.net single reconstruction to be updated :p

I'm in the process of learning Winter Variation, and I want your oppinion on if it's worth it or not. Be specific, please. Thanks!
Your original post is too vague for us to constructively respond. What do you currently average? What other alg sets do you currently use? Do you have other major or recognizable flaws in your solves?

Sure, winter variation can be useful but depending on what you already know and how effectively you’re implementing your current knowledge into your solves will ultimately drive whether or not it’s worthwhile for you to learn WV now.

Forr example, WV is objectively useful for improving solves but you may have other areas that are a better use of your time. example, I am slow, WV could help me but My time is better spent optimizing F2L. Maybe something is similar for your.

Please elaborate to help us help you.

Ik this is 5 years old but no, full WV isn't worth it. Only R U' R', R U2 R', L' U2 R U R' U2 L, R U R' U' R U' R', U R U' R' U R U2 R' are worth it. The rest are either too long or janky to be worth it

I do believe that some of Winter Variation is worth it, but not all. Some of the cases are easier to notice than others, and will allow you to get much faster solves. I know all of WV, I just don't use all of it. Sometimes, I already know what OLL I will get, and will just choose to go for the ZBLL

What about r' F R F' M'? Also, there is another reason why I revived this thread. I want to start learning ZZ but I don't know whether it's worth it to do EO cross- First 3 F2L slots- WV- PLL or EO cross- F2L- COLL- EPLL?

Coll isn't worth learning over normal ocll+pll. Learning the good winter variations can be useful, but you can't use wv every solve and some cases are just objectively bad. I would either learn the good wv and use ocll+pll all other times or, if you are interested, I would recommend checking out zzct. Swagrid can confirm it's a pretty fun method.

EOcross - F2L - OCLL - PLL is the best I think until you start learning ZBLL or another variant. I'm learning COLL because I want to start learning ZBLL soon after.
