Is this a good idea?

I was thinking that since you can get rubik's cube cubies in almost any color, would it be beneficial to get an actual cube color scheme? IE: my cross color is blue so I'd make all cross pieces blue, make each F2L pair a separate color, and make LL green. I was thinking it would help with look ahead but I'm not sure if I'd learn to rely too much on the cubie colors and I'd be totally screwed if I ever had to solve a solid color cube. That, and I'm betting it wouldn't be tourney legal (not sure though)

Anyone have any thoughts?

I wouldn't recommend it. It's way too easy to become dependent on the color of the plastic and not the stickers, thus giving you a crippling crutch.

It was an interesting idea though.

Personally, I always thought the best way to train was to make the skill harder during practice instead of easier. I think if you placed small circles of colors instead of full stickers, this would force you to quickly recognize. To bump it up even more, you don't always have to place the sticker in the center.

Of course, this makes it very hard to see the back of the cube in a speed run so you might also want to try 4 small triangles in the four corners of a cubie, but that may be hard to setup , that way you're only briskly searching the corner of the cube with half a rotation rather than trying to see the whole color with a full one.

And this is all theoretical, I've never tried it
