Is it just me or is cubing like unknown?

Yoooooo! I think whenever people think of Rubik's cubes, they think of nerds not the vast world of cubing. We need to make the vast world of cubing more popular!!! Jus bc people solve Rubik's cubes doesn't mean their nerds!!!

A lot of people know about speedcubing, but nobody knows a lot about speedcubing. I completely agree with you that people think about cubers being nerds, a lot of my friends make fun of me for being a cuber.

Also I'm writing this in a class full of people who don't know I'm a cuber lol.

I think I depends on the region/country. A lot of kids here in the Philippines recognize cubing. I often hear them say something like “mom look it’s a Rubik’s cube!”. Some kids even guessed how fast I could solve a cube (this was back when I was averaging around 25 secs) and they guessed 5 mins lol.

Cubing is known by most people in the world probably, the word "Rubik's" will make most non-cubers think of a really complicated puzzle rather than what it is - just following a series of learned sequences to solve. Which probably any one could do.
And as the guy said above it was massive in the 80s then died out until resurrection in the early 2000s.
For most people now it's seen as something from the past like skate boards.
I have seen a few TV shows about 80s music or biggest news stories from the 80s or best 80s TV shows and they usually feature a Rubik's Cube somewhere in it.

It's not simple. You have repeated it thousands of times. Hence you think it is simple.

Many people have tried to use the "2 move" trick. I explained to them that these moves don't go through all 43 quintillion combinations. Then they realized their mistake. There are hundreds of videos online depicting a 2 - 10 move sequence, that will eventually "solve" the cube.

I mean generally to solve it is simple. Solving it fast is definitely more complicated than just solving it.

Cubing is known by probably most people with a conscience tbh.
But thats only really the knowledge of the 3x3 that probably sits scrambled in the attic for the past x years.
Also ngl if you solve rubiks cubes you probably are a nerd ngl cause why would a non nerd decide to memorise possibly hundreds of algorithms that serve no purpose outside of cubing.

To me, I feel like a lot of people know what a Rubik’s cube is, but they have no idea about the world of speedcubing. And they only really think about nxn cubes, not anything like mega, pyra, squan, clock, etc… (or oh/blind/fmc).
