I had an idea today while thinking about some problems with the current format of the Forums.

I'm not talking about this forum, but about forums in general.

If someone post something they have to think WHERE to post. that is, what area the thread belong.
I don't think that is something we should let the user decide. Normally users are bad in deciding which section their post belong.
If we use a computer program, specially nowadays with powerful text analisys software like LLMs and such, the program could decide which area the thread belong, that means the post would receive one or more categories or tags. That way the same post could be found in different areas it belong.

Another idea is that the forum would be more encouraging towards discussion and less punitive in relation to thread bumps or reiforcing if there already is a thread about some topic.

for example, if you make a post today you will receive a suggestion of similar posts already exists but you can simply ignore that message and proceed creating a new topic.
an idea is to have your post automatically attached to related topics, making a cluster or something like that. I'm not talking about a chaotic mess, but a chronologic organization of discussions about a given topic.

My ideia of a type of forum that would fix some of the problems in the current format is more social and more encouraging of discussions, letting the user search the current content more and revisit atemporal content without the fear to be punished.

What you guys think about this concept related to computer-aided organization and organic learning/contribuiting?

I like that you’re thinking of ways to apply AI in cubing, very cool.
This seems like it has potential, and it could be extended to the “similar threads” which appear at the bottom of a page - but which don’t tend to be too similar in my view.
The “similar threads” currently at the bottom of this page appear to be just five threads with the word “idea” in the title, for example.

A lot could be achieved just with a smarter search function. Doesn't have to be AI, just something that tries to guess semantic relevance. Even tf-idf could work for longer posts.
