So here’s my idea. It’ll go through the entire year of 2025. Basically, 1,000,000 cumulative solves in a year. To keep it consistent, all solves must be recorded or live streamed for them to count towards the total.

How is it a fundraiser?
Basically, we’d use this big goal to draw attention to our cause of trying to donate (hopefully) $10,000 by the end of the year (which is 1,000,000 cents btw) to St. Jude’s children Hospital

This is all still all just an idea in my head atm, if anyone wants to help me, it’d be appreciated.

Things that would be needed to be successful:
-Some way of keeping track of how many solves have been in total
-Leaderboard of who has done the most solves (to create competition and make people to do the most amount of solves)
-People to actually do this challenge and help me do a cumulative 1,000,000 solves

If anyone is interested in this, cool! We have 5 and a bit months to plan this out until we start, so if you have ideas and want to help, please do! As previously said, this has just been an idea in my head up until this point and I haven’t done anything yet to really try to make this possible.

I'd be happy to do some solves and help out with technical stuff. A Google sheet with some automated addition might be a good way to track how many solves everyone's done, combined with some cloud storage to store the videos of solves.
That’d be amazing! We could have a progression thread about it. I’ll also promote it on my YouTube channel when it happens

That’s a great idea! My biggest questions involve money; how in the world are we going to raise around 10,000 dollars in a year without some serious firepower. Most cubers are poor, and not rich. There has to be some way to raise money that’s substantial and not like 32 bucks
maybe we could do something similar for 40hr challenge next year - 40,000 solves?

YouTube and twitch highlights have unlimited storage.
The better question is: how can I trust random forum members to handle a lot of money responsibly? Are you even legally allowed to do this?
We could set up a direct donation thing to St Jude's, but yes that is a very good question. I would like it if instead of us handling the money, it went directly to the hospital without passing through a third party (us).

I'm no income lawyer. We'd need at least SOME legal advice/input cos this is 10 grand yo. I know nothing about American donation laws, and while I may be outside the IRS' jurisdiction, Inland Revenue might have things to say to me and as well - I doubt Fen would want a federal conviction for money laundering

A third party would be very useful for handling funds assuming @FenTheGoat is a minor. I would talk with a parent or guardian OR directly reach out to the hospital as others have suggested. St. Judes Children's Hospital has one of the largest advertisement bases for charitable donations, so I'd eat my Rubik's Clock if they didn't have an extensive department for handling and transferring such funds. No matter what, the funds must be received by St. Judes.

I do highly doubt that @FenTheGoat (especially if they're a minor) would undergo extensive legal difficulties even if they straight up steal the cash. Obviously that isn't to say they will, but just in an outlandish hypothetical scenario. Minors are exempt from much of the disciplinary action in our legal system, and people get away with a HECK of a lot worse. As an adult, I wish $10,000 was still an exorbitant sum of money. While it is certainly is a LOT of money, what @FenTheGoat intends to do with a single large donation wouldn't be money laundering by any means.

Good idea. Would we need a bank account to deposit the money in though?

@FenTheGoat maybe you should get in touch w/ St Jude's
Idk, I’d have to figure all that out. I’m assuming we could just do this through YouTube’s fundraising feature? I don’t know how that works so I’ll have to look into that more, but that’s what I’m thinking about so far.

I’m definitely not being a middle man because it would look hella sketch if there was $10,000 from random people getting put into a random kid’s bank account. I also don’t want to stress out about having to be responsible for that large of money. And finally, I think if I were a middle man, that money would get taxed because it’s technically income. Even though I’m paying it to a charitable cause, it would still be taxed, meaning I’d have to file taxes (scary) and less money would go to St. Jude’s.

I’m so glad I made this thread because I legit don’t know wth I’m doing 💀💀💀💀

This is our #1 thing we need to figure out. How is the money going to get donated. I’ll update this comment (or make a new one depending how long it takes me) if I figure it out

Took me 2 seconds! You can do it directly through st jude’s!

I’d love to help with this! I don’t really have any useful info about how the money is handled, but I know some people that I’m sure would donate. Maybe we could try to do it as “every solve that I do, x will donate one cent.” I’m sure I could find some donors that’d go for that. Maybe not over a full year, but a month at a time or something

I was just thinking of having the fundraiser to run over the course of a year. Even a 1 time donation of $1 would be completely fine. Keep in mind, this fundraiser won’t start for another 5 months. We’re still in the figuring-things-out phase as of the moment

Yes that works too of course. Those were just my ideas. However you organize it, I’ll happily contribute!

I just realized how big of an undertaking this is

Here’s the biggest issues as of the moment and possible solutions

How will the money be handled?
-Probably just do a fundraiser straight through St. Jude’s

How will all the solves be tracked?
-Have a burner cubedesk account and allow a lot of people to do solves on it
-Make a discord bot and allow people to contribute their solves and hope they’re recorded and not lying about the amount.
Either way, there’s still flaws in both systems, if anyone has a better idea, please help.
-having a certain YouTube # and hope people don’t lie about how many solved they do in a video.
Another thing is, once the fundraiser is up and going, I’m going to promote it a lot in my YouTube channel. Im thinking about having incentive goals for each $1,000 Donated. So, if you have ideas for that, that would help too!

Another big thing, we need an average of 2,740 solves being done DAILY. Which sound like a lot, but if we have like 50 people do an ao100 daily, then that’s easy!
