I hate 6x6.

The advancements in 3x3 and 2x2 hardware made it possible to solve with a very agressive( and I meam really agressive) turning style that doesn't translate well to big cubes. You used to need a quite percise turning style for Sq1, so the problems people have now with Sq1s locking up "all the time" cone from never needing to turn accurately on expensive 3x3s.

Personally, I don't think I've ever had a pop with my new 2021 Qiyi MS 4 and 5, on loser than factory tensions.
For 6 and 7, not more than mild lockups. So I can't quite see your problem being anything else than your turning being too agressive. A 6x6 will, constructionally speaking, likely never corner cut 45° up, despite that being considered not enough on modern 3x3s.

There's so much wrong with it. I really try to like it, but pops, even with the best 6x6s just happen. Now I'm missing a centerpiece. What should we do, as cubers, to try and improve 6x6 as a whole event?
Buy an Aoshi. I've done hundreds of solves on mine and I don't think i've gotten a single pop.

Tighten the cube until you can barely get any gap, then
practice
practice
practice
practice doing centers, scramble and do it again
practice doing edges, scramble and do it again
practice doing 3×3 solves on 6×6, scramble and do it again
practice algs (from whaever method you use) over and over
practice Last2Edges algs and both parity algs over and over
🧐😲🤯💪😎
until your turning and control actually grow to become good enough to not have nearly so much trouble with pops and lockups anywhere near as often.
By that time you will orobably also be kich faster thanks tonall the different kinds of good practice ans solid time you invested with the cube in the journey to get to the Land of Progress

And make sure you're using a decent magnetic 6×6
I would recommend trying the YJ Yushi V2M 6×6, its less than $20
it has good anti-pop tech in the pieces, and its not a fast cube so it's easier to control

MGC for budget, Aoshi for flagship.
