I found something interesting...

I have a theory that as your body and mind grows, your overall ability to solve the cube grows too.

That's why you'll get better after a long pause or by just practicing something that doens't have a direct connection to cubing.

I remember coming back to megaminx after a really long pause and being able to understand the overall theory of block building a lot better than in the past.

Sometimes we must just let our mind and body to grow and not force our organism into doing something we can't at the moment.
I agree. That's a good thought

I knew I would never be a star at chess when I was a little kid and I couldn't do those mental visualization on the board exercises to save my life. Too much mental calculation and I am really bad at that. Calculating is for computers.

Yo dudes,So like, I been MIA for a while cuz I got super into chess, ya know? And guess what?I'm tellin' ya, grindin' chess HARDCORE actually helps with cubing! All those patterns and predictin' moves – it all translates to faster solves. My average is like a second faster now, cuz I'm seein' the moves quicker. Was kinda rough at first after the break, but once you get back into it, it's gonna be fire.Try it yourselves and let me know how it goes!Peace out! :)

I play chess too and am rated about 700 (I have played a lot of unrated chess recently so it isn't that accurate). Just like @jburrito75 did, I took a little break from cubing to focus on chess, and once I came back, my lookahead was way better than before. I don't think this happened because chess improved my pattern recognition, but rather because taking breaks generally is very important for productivity and much more.

Also if anyone wants to friend me on chess.com my account is called Kiwicuber
