Hey guys, whenever i do an average of 5 or Avg of 10 my average can vary from 15 seconds to 22 seconds. any tips on how to get more consistent as in lower averages. another problem is stress during competition. during the hong kong open right before i got to do my official solves i got a few 16/17 second solves with proper scrambles but when i was doing my official solves i only got times like 28/30second solves

My averages of 10 never vary that much (like 19-23) averages of 5 can vary (17-25). Your case is a bit extreme. My problem with my variation is that I forget that I'm speedsolving and look for FMC solutions or test out solving unconventional pieces, I don't know about you.

Find out what step of your solve is being the most inconsistent.

I think you use Fridrich so, it's probably your F2L that is giving you the problem. It may be another step.

Practice that inconsistent step a lot.

In competitions, take a deep breath, close your eyes and just think through a random scramble in your head and solve it. Make sure you do important things like looking ahead. Then when you're solving, pretend no one is watching you and just concentrate only on your solve. Look ahead and do whatever you do when you get good solves (besides getting skips)

i seriously don't understand your motivation to posting this.

You say you have done a 12 second average, and your best non lucky solve is 13 seconds!!!!!!!!!

Your WCA times state that you are about a 30 second average, and you say that you average 12 seconds!

THat is outrageous.

Secondly, you seriously think that we beleive that you have an average range from 12 to 22!!

That is impossible.

Your WCA times, the times in your post and the times in your signature are extremely wrong, (except the WCA times)

my averages in my signature were on aday were i had alreaady been cubong for close to 6 hours so my senses were porbaly sharper then

Averages of 5 will naturally have a lot more variation (though I am also skeptical about the ranges you're claiming). What is the variation on your averages of 12? They should look a bit more consistent. Better yet, take an average of 50-100 and look at your standard deviation.

Competition pressure is something many competitors tend to overlook, but for some people it has a major effect on their times, especially if they're not used to it. Just try to stay calm and focused for best results. Do your slower averages usually happen when you're starting to lose concentration?

i think my OLL and my F2L may have affected my times the most as my 2 look OLL is not very strong and i have learned about 30 OLl algs and can recognise and execute them very fast. my F2L normally takes around 8-15 seconds any tips on improving on my F2L

If you've been in the speedcubing community for any length of time you've probably heard this already, but practice going slow and looking ahead. Look-ahead is key to a good F2L.

Obviously your F2L is a big problem in consistency. Perhaps you can show a video of an average of 5 or 12 F2Ls (cross + F2L). This way we can see what is affecting your inconsistency the most (probably is lots of pauses).

Just work on alway looking at the next two pieces you're going to insert while you inserting one pair.
