Yes so I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how to apply the lube you get from the rubiks.com DIY kits.

I've three tubes of the stuff. It seems useless.

The method I use:
- Pull the cube a part
- Put all the pieces on a papertowl
- Wrap a ScrapeRite blade with some tissue paper
- Squirt the stuff into the tissue so that it's wet
- Dab/brush the cubies with the tissue (hence the blade for something to hold)

Wait for the cubies to try. Turn them over onto their other sides and repeat. Usually takes 30min to an hour to dry.

Again, the stuff seems useless. I'd recommend some kind of silicone spray like CRC 808 or 3-in-1 Pro Silicone Spray :-)

Tim.

Ok, I love this lube. I recently found out that you only need 6 drops of lube.

1. Pop out an edge by turning one face 45 degrees.
2. Carefully drip about 6 drops into the cube. Make sure not to squirt a lot. It's a waste of lube.
3. Pop the edge back in and work the lube around by doing a couple of solves.
4. Done! Lube should last perfectly for a couple of weeks, but it still lasts longer.

I think that silicone spray gives you the same feel for longer, but the feel you get with only a couple of drops of cubelube, is amazing. The cube will feel just a little different after the lube starts to wear off, but, at least for me, my times don't change.

I guess you guys are applying it to DIY cubes?

I've been trying to use it on store bought cubes so the tension is a little tighter. Hence not noticing a difference when you use the stuff :-/

Tim, I don't think you're noticing a difference because of the way you are applying it. You don't have to take the cube apart, you don't have to dab each little cubie with the lube, and you don't have to wait for it to dry. That's an awful lot of work, and it won't give you optimal results. Did your lube come with a little syringe? Just squirt a little lube into your cube with the syringe if you have one. Otherwise, pop an edge cube out, fill the hollow part of the cubie with lube, and put it back in. The liquid will then coat all the inside parts of your cube and I am sure you will feel a difference in how your cube spins.

Masterofthebass is right - you don't need too much, and any more than just enough is a waste - it will drip right out of the bottom of your cube.

I've also tried applying it to other cubes in the past simply by putting a drop on each corner after rotating the centre slices 45 degrees and then worked it in with a few moves. Then I repeated that step a few times on different sides.

That method didn't seem to do much so I tried pulling the cube a part to apply more.

The stuff came in 3 syringes. I just prefer my silicone sprays I guess :-P

You should pop an edge out and overlube the cube with that stuff, not just a bit on the corner.

Cube lube makes new cubes easier to turn, silicone makes new cubes almost impossible to turn from my own experience.

I disagree with the above, but I agree with the below

And I also agree with

despite everyone saying not to use WD40, that was the only thing that i could find, so i tested it out. i only applied a bit and then opened up the cube to wipe it down. works great so far :D

It will eat up the the cube though.

This probably sounds stupid but..
If you are using silicone spray and a store bought cube. where would u spray it?

I siliconed the centre of my cube, but now it feels like a dollar store rubiks cube. is that supposed to happen in the beginning? do i let it dry or spin it right after?
