I recently got back into cubing, after taking a break for a while, and now I'm starting to get more serious about timing. I had to re-learn the top edge pieces step for the 3x3, so I'm still not too fast at it, my best is 1:30 on a generic Rubiks brand cube, which is really stiff. On a lanlan (got it on amazon for 3 bucks, always locks up) 2x2, I average around 15-20 seconds, depending on whether I get a top layer skip or not. I know how to do finger tricks, although it's not very possible on the 3x3 I have. I can solve my 2x2 one handed in about a minute or so, haven't really tried it too much though.

So with that bit of background, once I master the final step of the 3x3 and get my shengshou aurora in the mail, how fast do you think I could solve a 3x3? Not asking for exact guesses, but just a rough estimate based on experience and what not.

And yes, I know I'm slow lol. Thanks in advance!

You'll probably get to averaging under a minute on 3x3 very shortly after getting the Aurora. I don't know how it will immediately affect your times, as it could be a bit uncontrollable at first (although unlikely with an Aurora), but you'll eventually be a lot faster if you use a speedcube. Just don't expect an immediate improvement.

And don't depend on the cube to be your source of improvement.
I guaruntee you that with efficient solving, you can get sub-10 on even a bad Rubik's brand. Your style is more important, as is the amount that you practice.
It may actually add to your time at first, depending on your speed, and then quickly drop to sub 1:00. It may provide a boost in interest and entertainment which will lead to sub-50 avg as well. Just an estimate.

~5-6 TPS consistently on a brand new storebought?

I got a sub 10 single with a rubiks and a 7.x but. That whas hand scramble from a friend and whas 4 move xxcross 4 last 2 pairs at the same time F sexy F' Jperm but i dont count it as a time

singles can't really count as a factor, you would have probably got an even faster time on a speedcube, although well broken in rubik's brands can get comparatively decent times.

I have owned 6 Rubik's brands, and I modded a few in different ways. The best one I had though was a really lucky unmodded one with lube. I can average sub-17 with it when I'm used to it.
Also, if you want a faster Rubik's brand cube, leave petroleum based lubricant (vaseline) in your cube for several months, clean it completely, lube, and watch the world burn.
I think that experience with a bad cube for the first few months/weeks of cubing is vitally necessary for the process of getting faster, as it teaches you finger tricks and accuracy.

The advanced finger tricks learned at sub-10 speeds will only come with the practice necessary to achieve such an average.

My final thoughts: Get the generic Shengshou, not an Aurora. Use that. I used a Rubik's brand for a month when I started, and used a ShengShou V1 for the next month before I switched to an OPZ (which was, from what I had heard, the best cube in existance at the time) and now I use a silver Weilong and an FS V2 about evenly.

Using a bad cube when you start out does not teach you finger tricks and accuracy. How are you supposed to be accurate or even do finger tricks in the first place on a bad cube?

I think you should get as good of a cube as you can as soon as you can. There is no reason to put it off.

Also, I would expect it to cause a jump in your times if you got a speedcube. How big the jump is depends on how bad your Rubik's was. I got a Zanchi to replace my broken in Rubiks and lost 5 seconds with my very first solve. My personal best at the time was a minute. My times also went down pretty quickly within a few solves, but then your progress starts to slow again.
