How much can you improve by changing cube?

i currently have a rubiks store brought cube and i am wanting to move onto a DIY. what cube would be recommended as a first one. On the store brought it locks up a bit and cant cut corners at all really.

Iv read quite a few reviews on cubes and watched a few videos but i am get contradicting advice. The videos seem to state that type F is the best but here on the forum feedback on the model f is mixed.

help would be apreciated

As far as I know, the cube that you use is mostly a matter of preference. For example, I am shocked to see so many anti-D comments on this thread, but that's just a prejudice, as type D (New included) works very well for me, and you could be the same.

Just think about what aspects in a cube you need. Very precise people won't need corner cutting (As much.)

You say it's a matter of preference, then you say that you feel shocked that there are so many of anti-D comments. Ever occur to you that those anti-D comments reflect our preference?

It is strange. Sometimes there is a particular trigger that I can do smoothly 10times before, like R'URU'. Then another day I try it and it keeps getting locked on the RU' a few times in a row. Then maybe I try it another day and it is smooth again.

Has anyone encountered this? Is it the problem with the cube, screws not tight etc, or just psychological or my fingers are just not consistent?
lol, i find that the same(same trigger as well). some times your just solving well, like this guy who broke a record on some puzzle, then broke it again, then broke the original record again in a mean of 3, but he normally wasnt the best in the world. some days your finger are just moving better.

i also find it with R, L', R', L' x3 on my pyraminx that happens

You're taking my words out of context. After saying how shocked I was, I then proceeded to say that it was a prejudice, as my main cube is a D. So I've already acknowledged that everyone else has a right to their preferences, too.

I was averaging 45 seconds with my store bought, then I got a DIY my average drop to 40, then I found, what I thought to be at the time, my favorite cube, type A, I was averaging 35 seconds, until I found my true love I know average sub-30.....with my Edison. I suppose that getting a new speed cube could take a lot off your time, but really you need to practice there's no point in having a really good cube if you dont use good finger tricks

Wow those are some crazy improvement. So where to get Edison?

Well I got the first one from Tribox, but then I found the site EdiCubes.com there awsome free shipping!

O! You too? So may not be the cube then.

But I must say that getting new cubes give you some sort of renewed motivation. It's good to have variety of cubes when speedcubing. I often get sick of one cube not matter how good the cube is. Something about overusing a cube emphasizes its weaknesses and switching a cube emphasizes the strengths of the cube that you're switching to. But I must say, the Type D is pretty bad. Get anything but a Type D and you'll be fine. Not a Type B.

I read on the cube review that type D is poor for corner cutting (4/10) but not likely to pop (10/10) which I am surprised because I had the impression it is the opposite after hearing from another source. Is it really that bad for corner cutting?

Did not see type B but I guess its all personal right?
Type D is decent imo but oh well... I am still bad at speedcubing so I might not be the one most appropriate to say that...
