How long till understanding kicks in?

Currently learning two look OLL. My F2L is intuitive and speeding up steadily. Once I work through full OLL and PLL will understanding come as a byproduct of repetition or do I need to work on commutators etc. in parallel to really get the ideas of what I am doing into my head... Or C just keep practicing and it will work itself out in 12-16 weeks like any other minor skill?

Just keep practicing... They will slowly come to you one at a time

I just set apart an hour for learning 2 look OLL and I memorized them all. Just do one at a time, and eventually they will convert to muscle memory, and you don't even need to think of the algs in your head when you do them.
