How long did it take you to get fast?

Oh. What should I do to be sub-10? No one has told me what to do to be sub-10.

Dont worry about what artic says. He is a bit annoying when you talk about progress. I am exactly like you in terms of speed, just got a sub 13 ao 100 today. For sub 10, 6 tps i believe and sub 2 for all algs. If you use cfop, 1-5-2-2 or 1-6-1.5-1.5. Depends on where your high tps is (algs vs intuitive steps).

My wife got me a Rubik's speed cube a couple of months ago just for fun. I've learned CFOP with 2-look OLL, and I get between 1:15-1:45. I don't see myself progressing as fast as a lot of people here, but then again, I'm 42. Any other older guys getting into this? How are your times?

I'm 42 in a few months. I'm doing CFOP with 2 look OLL and 2 look PLL. I'm averaging about 1m26 and my PB is 1m7.

I've been speedcubing about 2 or 3 weeks, I guess.

I think I need to work on my cross and F2L as I can take absolutely ages on them.

I'm 42 too. Took me 5 or 6 months to get 40s averages then my 2nd child was born. 6 months on I'm no faster but I can solve lots of different cubes.

I learned CFOP about a few weeks after picking up my first cube. I was down to what I normally averaged with Beginners + silly LL after a week or so and it took me about 2.5 months from there to become sub 20. I've been cubing for a year and 4 months now and I'm sub 13.

Average of 5: 9.94
1. 8.85
2. (12.58)
3. 11.70
4. (8.40)
5. 9.26

I got this average last week, and I learned CFOP and began practicing in March 2014. It is possible to get fast quickly, just learn from good cubers as much as you can, and practice it :tu

I would love to be as fast as that in 9 months.

It took me about two weeks to get fast by most of the population's standards (sub 1minute is fast). Fast is subjective. It will take as long as it takes to get as fast as you're hoping for.

I know what you're saying. If you can do it at all that's fast for most of the non-cubing population.

I did 1m1s twice yesterday and I've been cubing a little over 2 weeks.

I've beaten my PB at least every other day since I started.

I guess I'll see where it goes.... I'm hoping to eventually get sub-20 though.

I was Sub-20 within 3 months of beginning cubing. Then I lost interest in speed and became interested in learning more algorithm sets. I recently began focusing on speed again and have dropped 1.5 seconds off my average within 3 months (down to <17). The only consistent thing between these time periods is good practice. By good practice I don't just mean solving over and over, but analyzing your weaknesses and improving/correcting those areas.

tl;dr Focus on what you aren't good at and fix it.

It took me about 2 months or so to get to sub-30 and now i've been speedcubing for 3 months now. My first cube was a rubiks speedcube then switched to a moyu aolong V2 after 3 weeks.
P.B. 18.3s

Little over two months since I started. Started focusing on speed a few weeks ago. PB: 42.23

I'm working on look ahead--it seems to be coming naturally. It just kind of began happening--but I'm inconsistent.

I've had a few solves that wanted to be sub 40. I'm sure it will happen soon enough. I won't learn full PPL or OLL until I have reached low thirties. Right now I enjoy discovering new algorithms on my own. My goal is to eliminate the long pauses.

I don't think I'll work on getting any better than <30 once I get there. I think half a minute is pretty amazing. As the contemporary proverb goes: good at billiards, skills well rounded. Great at billiards, skills ill founded.

I remember when I started cubing, and I thought sub-20 was crazy fast and that was my goal. Now I'm averaging 20s after ~8 months, and I'm completely satisfied with my progress!

Well, it's been 20 and a half months since I started cubing, and I'm averaging low 18 high 17s.

Probably should be better than this atm...

But I'm nearly sub 1 on 4x4 and nearly sub 2 on 5x5 which is nice

I started speedcubing in october if I remember correctly but I took it seriously only in december. (I was already averaging 45/40 I think)
Right now I'm sub 35-33 and averaging about 28. (PBs written in my signature, I'm breaking them each time I do a new session)
I am hopping to be sub 22 or so by april for nationals !
