How Do You Practice?

Maybe 70% solves. Nowadays the rest is either 1.5-2 pairs per look practice, or just consciously forcing myself not to look at the pair I'm inserting. And a bit of sitting and thinking through xcrosses.

I just do straight solves.but I know I shouldn't :/ haven't improved much.

Same here, but on a waaay different level... (between 25 and 35+ seconds)

Because I don't have that much time to cube, I only do solves, even if I tell myself every day that I realy should practice crosses and practice my known OLLs so that I don't always forget them.

I practice my EOLine and separate blocks blindfolded. I don't really drill my algorithms in front of a timer, I just practice them casually, but I can sub-2 all of my algorithms, which I think is a reasonable time for someone with a speed like me.

I just solve. A lot. It's gotten me great progress so I don't think I'm gonna change it XD
And what do you average at the moment ? Because I also do mostly solves and I feel I get stuck around 40sec. I can, in most cases, get my F2L within 20-25sec ( including cross obviously ), even though sometimes I get a miserable 30+ when I screw it up ( I still need to get more fluent on some F2L cases ). I do 2-look PLL/OLL and I look for better algorithms at the moment, that have easier finger tricks, I find I sometimes get stuck on a few of them and take up to 20sec for my LL. My PB is 30sec ( easy F2L pairs and PLL skip ). Most of my solves are in the range 37-43sec.

I just did 100+ solves a day for the past 3 days and haven't improved at all though. I also tried to practice a few slow solves, trying to reduce cube rotation during F2L, and slowing down on LL algs to gain precision.

Today I'm even way higher than yesterday, I was at 39.8, I'm at 42.5 today ( aoe 38 still but I often manage to get a good serie of 5 mostly, but consistency is the hardest bit ).

If anyone got hints or suggestions it'd be greatly appreciated.

Happy cubing everyone !

I'm sub 12 after a year. When I was at your speed literally I just kept solving and my times plummeted.

I'll keep doing just that then, maybe I've just been progressing too fast lately, I went from 55ish to 40ish in a few days, maybe I'll give it another week. I'd like to reach 30ish ao100 soon so that I can start to work on full PLL/OLL.

anyway, thanks for your answer, it brought my confidence back !

i read from a post pipkikas made(sorry if thats not how your name is written)
that you can get great results from grinding solves, that is just solving the cube a lot,up to about 20 seconds and after that you need actual targeted practise.
do you find this true?
im at about 24-25 seconds now,and even though targeted practise might have better results i just find solving cubes normally more fun.
Ya think ill need to switch soon?

Everyone's different and of course you can do whatever you want. In my opinion, when you hit a plateau it's the right time to identify your weaknesses and do some targeted practice to try to break through - whether that plateau is 20, 30 or 40 seconds. Having said that, targeted practice is beneficial at any time and can be fun too.

I just kept on solving. A ton. That's all that got me to where I am now.

1. That won't work for everyone to get to sub12.

2. At some point, that won't work for you either.

Haven't you hit a plateau lately? This could be the point for you in which you need to start doing other stuff.

Maybe do some other events?

But if you find cubing boring, maybe you should just quit/take a break.
After all we do this for fun...
Dude, I don't find cubing boring at all, read the quote for context. I meant that doing nothing else but a crap ton of solves (like kclejeune recommends) sounds like a really boring practice regimen. If that's all I could think of to do I would give up long before hitting sub-12.

Actually I'm still improving, it's like a half second per month. However, my LL sucks so I need to start focusing on that.

I actually go back and watch videos and research content and information that I started out with. I go back and find things I missed and I relearn steps and challenge myself. Untimed solves and "speedsolving FMC" for efficiency can be great for getting better at F2L and especially cross.

Once I hit sub-16, I couldn't improve by just doing solves. I'm sub-12 globally now. One reason is because my LL improved. Why? I learned to slow down at the end of LS, OLL, and PLL (to make sure of my AUF) just enough to plan farther ahead. Try planning as far ahead as you can a bunch of times and solving with as few "looks" as you possibly can.

Also, if you do something stupid or wrong and you catch it in a solve (and proceed to finish it becuas eyou're timed), one thing I find helpful is to, regardless of the effort involved, go back and get the scramble and solve it again better this time. I apply the same technique to piano and all forms of practicing.

I switch events when I'm bored. 4x4 and 5x5 aren't really enought o entertain me in a switch from 3x3, so I do Pyra or something.

20 solves a day
Increasing in speed from 1-20
So my first solve im turning super slow
And the last one is fast/look ahead.
