Are there different categories? like age, or average time? i dont wanna be going to a comp and compete against a 20 year old with a sub 20 average, if thats what it comes down to then so be it i guess, thanks for the help guys

The point of competitions, for the majority of cubers, isn't really to win. There's going to be, almost always, someone who is ridiculously fast. I mean, would you want to compete against a 14 year-old with a sub 14 avg? There's definitely no reason for an age category. Sometimes competitions will have a B Final which is for the people who didn't make a round.

You really don't compete against other people in competition, you compete against yourself. Winning is pretty much secondary to me. Well winning is actually pretty hard, you almost always have to be able to sub15 at least.

You compete against everyone in that event.

Arnaud, I don't know if you noticed, but Chris took that down because his timer procedure was out of date. It's a shame, too, because I really wanted to read that before I went to the US Open. I hope he will put it back up sometime soon - I'm sure it would have been really helpful to me to be able to read it before my first competition.

Chris's tutorial was somewhat helpful, but just reading the regulations would've been enough to know everything that you would've needed.

Besides, not all judges ask/wait if you are ready before uncovering the cube, like his videos showed. -____-;;;
