How did you get into speedcubing?!?!

I saw 'The Pursuit of Happyness (not sure how it's spelled in the title, but I know that they misspell it during the movie)' and I asked my parents to buy me one because I heard if you could do it you were smart. [cliche]Well, the rest, as they say, is history[/cliche]

Found a cube in our drawer and spent an hour getting one face.

I found my long lost Rubik's Cube in a drawer, and decided to solve it. Then, just like all the other cubenoobs, I watched Dan Brown's tutorial. :D

(also, just a side note, I could solve one side easily before, I never really thought it was hard long before I started cubing. :o)

It took maybe a week, but after I got my first Rubik's brand cube, I was able to use the algs in the booklet which came with the cube. Generally, I used the algorithms a bit faster, but after maybe a year, I hit the wall. I couldn't get any faster with this beginner's method. Going to Berkeley Fall in '08 really opened my eyes to new methods. Although I'm still working on it, I'm using/learning CFOP. Couldn't have broken 20 seconds on an average without it.

I went on to bigger cubes, but rarely practice 5x5-7x7. 4x4 I'm qualified already for US Nationals so I have to keep practicing.

Eh. I need to learn some OLL's. I have US Nationals in a month.

i'd been confused by the 3x3 since i was 4 years old,so i bout one,i took off all the stickers, then i bought another one, took it apart and didn't know how to put it back together, then finally my mom bought me another one and she said " DON'T DO ANYTHING TO THIS CUBE,don't take the stickers off, don't take it apart" so then i scrambled it,looked at the hint book, and then i finally solved it,then i learned f2l,OLL,PLL (2-look of course) and then got faster, now i'm learning full PLL and i average around 29 seconds.

i used my cousin's cube, and i was addicted in minutes, so i begged my mom to get one. i got a couple weeks later, but in that couple weeks, i was watching videos on how to solve it, so i solved in in 5 minutes. i kept watching videos of people solving it, and it inspired me to continue and to get faster. (i'm still getting inspired [i'm sub-35])

A friend of mine brought a dollar store cube to school.

And being a nerd, I was immediately attracted to the cube. Ended up solving it, and have been doing it ever since.

My first solve in front of other people was with the beginners algorithms written on the back of my arm XD

That was 10 months ago.

There was this dude on my bus, when I was in 6th grade (two years ago), and he solved it really quickly.

Then, I went to a math competition (lmao, 6th place...) and the "math nerds" from my school could solve them (according to them, I was a bad Asian). So then, I decided to get one, and used the instruction book and solved it.

Now they think I'm a beast, for some reason.

Note-those guys were beasts at math. Two of them made it into the National Mathcounts countdown (2nd and 7th seat) this year, and they stole all four of the Missouri National team's places. And the same two that made Mathcounts Countdown also made USAMO. Hehe, my school is awesome.

I was at my school and we were having a party day. We all had names on a ticket that they would draw for prizes. I happen to have won a Rubik's cube.

After get one side consistently and not being able to solve it, i just left it alone. My friend came over one day and was so intrigued by it, he decided to get his own and learn how to solve it. When he learned how to solve it, he brought it to school and everyone was so impressed. He always made fun of me for not being able to solve it, so I learned how to solve it.
And it was so fun! I solved it again and again. I finally challenged him to race and he beat me easily. So I practiced consistently.

When i saw one of Chris Hardwick's videos(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQ-qpeRZipU&feature=related) I was so amazed so I looked around for more videos, finally stumbling upon one of Yu Nakajima's videos and saw the annotations describing F2L, OLL, and PLL. I had no idea what those were, so I googled them. So then I learned the(or still learning =P ) CFOP system and now can beat my friend easily. =D

I've been hooked on it since i learned how to solve it =)

well..one of my friends knew how to solve the 3x3 and 4x4 and always showed off a school. i decided that with a little thinking i could figure it out. i bought one, scrambled it, and the ripped my hair out because i couldn't solve it. i took it to play with on the plane on my way to Atlanta for the F.I.R.S.T Nationals. (F.I.R.S.T is a robotics compition.) another friend of mine stole it and solved it for me. when i got back i went on the rubik's website and found one of the videos that they had linked to. i solved it and have been ever since.
