I first started when I was 6 years old and I got a Rubik’s Brand for my birthday. For a month or so I would mess around with it, but eventually I found a really terrible tutorial and followed that, solved it once and never scrambled it again. 7 years later when I was 13, my little brother got a Rubik’s Cube for Christmas and I scrambled it up. It sat in our house unsolved for 2 months and one day I decided to try to solve it so I searched up a tutorial and found the Wired tutorial and finally solved it using a good method. I did about 20 solves that day and found it really fun! YouTube then ended up recommending me Wired’s video on why it’s almost impossible to solve a Rubik’s Cube in under 3 seconds, that’s where I learned about Felik’s and the 3.47 single, and from there I just got super sucked into cubing and getting faster.
Now today I’m sub-10 on 3x3 and I’m (formerly) 38th in the world for Clock. This hobby has truly changed my life in so many ways.
