Hello to everyone in this amazing community.
I'm Matt Au.The cube and I go way back (started in the 80's when I was in high school). I wasn't great then (pb 43s, average around 2:00), and I'm still not all that great (pb 31s, average < 1:00). Never been in a comp. I like the academic challenge of the cube.
I started using the Wiki on this site about 3 years ago trying to figure out what I need to do to improve. It has been a great resource and influence. I finally joined up about a month ago.
My main is a stickerless Zhan Chi. My main solving method is ZZ. In fact, after LBL (at least 3 different variations), I dove right in to ZZ, since I figured out that my turning style is terrible (cube rotations slow me way down, F and B turns weren't working for me).
I've played around with CFOP, Roux, Petrus, and Kociemba's 2-phase method (though I cheat the LL and just solve it with PLL). Still can't figure out the Heise method.
I recently helped an elementary school start up a cubing club. It was great fun! The kids and I had an amazing time. One of our kids posted a pb of 29s using the LBL I taught them. He, and all of the other 30 students, had only been cubing for six weeks.
I joined because I think I have something to finally contribute. I've figured out a way to get to a 1-LLL that requires 38 algs, an 8 alg LS, use of 28-ZBLL algs, and if there's an OLL skip, 2 PLL's. I'll post it soon.
Happy cubing!
Matt
P.S. aym are my initials, Au Yew Ming. But everyone calls me Matt.
