Hello everybody! Let me give you a warning, i put alot of work and detail into every introduction thread on every forum i join, so be aware this might become a little long ;).

My name is Eric, and like the title says, i come from the united states.
Ever since i was little, I've had a deep fascination for the Rubik's cube. It baffled me, but i loved turning it around and seeing the colors. I remember getting a 2x2 and crying because i messed it up :).

I was like this for a while, i had an extremely old cube that my mom gave me in which when she was younger, she just took it apart and put it together. It feels absolutely horrible and pops easily. I also got a rubik's brand cube in which i used for 6 years even though only 3-4 of them i was actually capable of solving the cube. Back to that, during one of my summer camps, an asian girl named sofia in which i was friends with knew how to solve the cube. At that time i had seen Dan Brown's video on how to solve, but was only able to pick up the first layer. I was pretty good at the first layer, knew my R i D i R D algorithm very well, and i thought i was so cool for knowing how to make any possible pattern on a single side. However, when i found out she had known how to solve the cube, I asked her if she could teach me and she accepted the request. I was writing down algorithms, memorizing patterns like the fish and saying "Are you R prime? You are you too are prime!" Out loud, and i eventually learned how to solve the cube. My average was about 3-4 minutes back then.

Over the next years, even though i haven't seen sofia for almost 4 years, I somewhat perfected my solve. I put some vaseline in my rubiks brand cube, And worked an average of about 2 minutes. For the last year or so, I haven't really picked up my cube at all, and ended up forgetting half of how to do it. Since i still had the notation and some algorithms hard-wired into my head, With a YouTube video and an hour i was able to get my solves back to about a minute and a half. This was last week. I became sick for two days, and for those two days i spent ALL of my time cubing. I learned how to do the intuitive F2L and such, and i ended up REALLY hurting my fingers because i was attempting to to finger tricks on a vaseline rubiks brand(lol). I also, in those two days kind of messed up a large amount of the stickers. I decided with the fingers hurting and the CONSTANT lock-ups when trying to move quickly that i would buy a speed cube. I decided to grab myself a stickerless zhanchi, as it had good reviews, cutting, looked nice and turned fast. The zhanchi came in on Friday and so far i am loving it. It doesn't feel as smooth as it felt out of the box, and it looks like i REALLY need to buy myself some lubix and get this baby turning quickly, but i can do my R U Ri Ui trigger fairly quickly, and finger tricks are almost consistent through my use of the cube.

I'm not really satisfied with my average though. Currently, i'm hovering around the 1:20 mark. My goal is to get a 45 second avg currently, that would be enough to make me happy. Unfortunentely, my beginners method is kind of rusty given I've been practicing the F2L for the last couple days, and I'm EXTREMELY slow at analyzing F2L pairs and figuring out how to orient everything properly. Once a pair is oriented, i have no problems inserting it into its slot quickly, it's just the time it takes for me to find pairs and figure out what to do with them. Since i'm going to get serious about cubing now, I decided to join this forum which seems to be full of friendly people who i can talk to about cubing and possibly help me get faster, as well as any tips or I just want to talk with someone about cubing, given almost none of my friends actually care :'(
god that came out longer then i expected..whatever

So, Hello world! Does anyone know how i can get faster with my F2L and get my avg to less than 1min?

Thanks for reading.

Hey Eric! Most people with the right resources get down to 45 seconds pretty quickly, and with your motivation I doubt you'll be an exception. I'd say learn 2-look OLL and 2-look PLL from the wiki and just practice doing F2L until you're used to it. Keep trying to do it intuitively, but don't be afraid to look up ways to solve the hard cases more efficiently.

It seems i will be able to get used to the 2 look OLL pretty easily, as it utilizes the sexy move which for some reason i overpractice. If i'm not solving the cube, im probably just doing it over and over again.

Haha, don't worry, everyone does the sexy move alot. It's fun to do.

What happened to Sofia? you need to go back and show her how fast you can do it xD

Also, you don't really need lubix, just go for like traxxas 30k or 50k. It's pretty cheap on Amazon.
