Hey there, my name's Edward. I have been cubing for about 3 years, although I had some 1.5 years of hiatus (in fact I just got back into "serious" cubing after 1 year of non-cubing).
My main puzzle is the 3x3x3. I still remembered the first time I solved it in November 2008. It was about 1 hour and 49 minutes xD. My second solve on that same day was 50ish minutes. My times then went down in quantum leaps. I used the Petrus method then.
After about a week or two, I was averaging 30-40 seconds, if my memory serves. After that I decided to switch to the Fridrich method because I felt that I couldn't get any faster with block-building (as I had 2 new rivals to compete with from the same class and I didn't want to be left behind).
From then on it was smooth sailing to 20+ seconds average, with an occasional sub-20. From time to time I stopped playing due to competitive stress and other distractions, until October 2009 or so where I stopped completely to annihilate my academics.
Recently I started thinking about trying out the Roux method, as I was bored from preparing for my exam and I somehow knew that block building would be fun. I tried the M2 method for BLD before so I had a preference towards M-slicing when playing for fun, so I thought, why not? Well it seems I was right, and every now and then I'd get cube euphoria from Rouxing the cube xD. Since I got bored of F2L, I want to someday use the Roux as my main method. F2L is really only fun for me when I'm playing against time, so for all other purposes, I will Roux, lol.
So that's one of my purpose for joining this forum. I want to get faster with the Roux (and CFOP as well) so that I can be confident enough to use it as my main method. Reading about others' accomplishment and cube discussions hypes me up and allows me to work harder, so I think this is a good step forward.
Aside from that I also want to improve at OH, BLD, 2x2x2 and 4x4x4 (couldn't practice this one since my Revenge crumbled when I was engineering it to turn 100 miles per second, i.e., lube it
).
So that's all about me, sorry for the long-post. That's my innate style, as my English teacher can probably tell you
.
Nice to meet you.
Additional information:
I'm learning the Ortega method for 2x2x2, I'll fix the Revenge soon and I'm going to do BLD soon as well. Whew, talk about dedication xD.
