My name is Freddy, I am a Dutch cuber who has started a few months back when I got a Rubik's brand 3x3 cube for my birthday. Since then I have learned and mastered it, replaced it with a speedcube and now solve it consistently under 90 seconds. Since then I have also bought a cheap 4x4 and 5x5 to see if I like those. The answer is that I like them better than the 3x3 and I now solve them consistently under respectively 4 and 8 minutes. The 9x9 in my avatar is the one I like best though, I solve it in under 40 minutes. I still have lots to learn, which is why I have been reading on this site for a while now.
For my next birthday I have set the following goals: 40 seconds for the 3x3, 2:30 minutes for the 4x4 and 5 minutes for the 5x5. I have no idea how fast I want to be on my 9x9 yet, but I hope to solve it within 25 minutes by that time. A part of the time gain on the 4x4 and 5x5 will be better hardware, as I am constantly struggling between too little lube (stable yet unsmooth) and too much lube (smooth yet unstable). And I will have to learn a bit more about lubrication as well, but I haven't found a shop that has thicker and thinner lubes in store here in The Netherlands.
For my profession I am a computer science teacher, where I teach students how to design and program embedded systems. I have 2 kids, the oldest (9 years old) is faster on his 3x3 than I am and the youngest (6 years old) is now learning to master the 3x3.
Cheers,
Freddy
