I am posting on behalf of my 13 yo son who is big, big into cubing

He is hoping to connect with all of you! He’d love to get into online competitions with you all!

A question from my son: In-order to compete do you have to have a stack-mat timer Or can you use a computer for timing?

No, you can use a computer or even a tablet or Chromebook
There aren’t any WCA competitions online as of now, but there are other unofficial solutions like LetsCube and CubingTime. I myself have a Discord server (heavily moderated) for cubing and sometimes we do races. The GenZ Cubing Official Discord it’s a great place to cube. Also there are solo timers such as cstimer and the weekly comps on this site.

Welcome, for forum competitions you can use an online timer, for official competitions, the organisers have timers ready for everyone.

Nope! Any timer works. I recommend a website called cstimer.

If you are referring to the speedsolving competition, there is both a keyboard timer, or you can use manual entry if you have a stackmat.
