Help w/ oll's

I am running into an odd situation.

When I perform the r U R' U' r' F R F' algorithm, I end up having to then use the F' r U R' U' r' F R

I make sure that I execute the algorithms properly, sometimes the r U R' U' r' F R F' works and other times I need to use the second algorithm. Does anyone have a suggestion on an algorithm that would be more consistent? I tried searching however, I did not find anything directly related to this. I am a beginner 2-look OLL/PLL cuber so please be easy on me.

Sounds like a recognition issue...when I play your two algs backward, the case generated is not the correct one (I got the "car" case, which is F (R U R' U')x3 F'). Make sure you're looking at the right pattern.

Spot on! I've been a bit busy and haven't been able to sit down and review this however, I caught myself using the wrong algorithm so, you are 100% correct.

As others have suggested, I am breaking down the different steps and working on each one, I think this will help me drop my times instead of trying to improve on all steps at once. Thanks again for the input!

You're welcome! Warm fuzzies for me!

I have dropped my averages by 20 seconds just by this however, I am now working on getting the cross down faster and F2L look-ahead. I will not have much time until next week with work and a class I am teaching so hopefully, I will have more time to dedicate to this and get that sub-1 minute goal. Right now, I am close but I want to get consistent so I am taking things one step at a time.
