Hello!

I've recently started cubing again after a 5 year long break. Although prior, I had been cubing for maybe 3 years back in elementary school. After a month's work of getting back into it and also improving, I've shaved my average time from around 20 to around 16 seconds. HOWEVER, I have now realized after al of these years of cubing that I've been doing my double flick for U2's wrong. I just now realize that you're supposed to use index finger first and then middle finger, but I've had it reversed all this time using middle finger first and then index finger.

I'm kind of worried now because I've learned all my algorithms with this initial middle finger double flick. However, I haven't really felt that this has inhibited me from being as efficient as I can be within my solves, not yet at least. However, I can see it being highly probable.

I just want input towards whether or not you guys think sticking with this type of double flick would screw me over, or let me know some examples of ways this can inhibit me from executing something on the cube. I will not be surprised if I have to relearn everything I know with the actual double flick.

Yes it most definitely will inhibit the flow of algs. Consider U2 R’ F. If you do middle then index, when you do the R’, your index will then be in an awkward position to do the F move. If you do index middle U2, it gives your index time to reset so it’s in a good position to do the F move after the R’. That’s just a simple example. For relearning it I would just make sure you cold turkey stop the old way, and only use index middle, even if it causes you to get trash times or miss out on PBs. Eventually it will become normal. You can also just spam it over and over.

Getting used to the new hardware will be the most important thing (cube nowadays are magnetic and much lighter)

You have to unlearn your old turning style, and develop you turning for the next cubes, in order to get more fluidity.

Welcome back to the cubing scene though!
