i am an amateur and have just started cubing a couple of months ago . i have a dayan zhanchi and my best timing is 48 secs . should i
[a] tighten the zhanchi's tensions so as to decrease the speed to get used to it and later on gradually loosen the tensions as my speed increases
OR
should i practice on a loose tension at a high speed from now itself??
i know the F2L method fairly well .

I'm a relatively new cuber who doesn't have a lot of time for practice, but I've been doing it for 6 or 8 months.

I think the best cubes to learn with are the loose ones. They are tougher to use for the beginner but you will be much faster with them, eventually. For a long time you will be learning to control the cube at the same time as you're learning algorithms. But a loose cube feels so nice that it will be more difficult to put down and you will enjoy it more. And your very best times will be faster.

One thing I've ended up doing with a lot of my cubes is shortening the springs. I like to have the cube tight enough that it doesn't pop much, but easy to turn. If you tighten a standard cube up enough to stop pops, you end up with very compressed springs and the faces become hard to turn. So shorten the springs to reduce their tension.

It really is just about comfort and preference. I recently bought a new cube intending to have it at a different tension than my main for different types of practice, but ended up setting it about the same because that's now what I like and what I'm used to. Just didn't like using the new cube when set different. I don't even know whether others would consider my preferred tension "tight" or "loose" (as an older cuber I don't know any other cubers IRL so unfortunately don't have the opportunity to mess with others' cubes).

I agree find the tension right for you.
Also start learning new stuff, PLL is great, I myself am still getting around to learning OLL.
Thirdly keep on refining your method and fingertricks.

At that speed i really dont think it matters on the tensions, you could probably still be using a rubiks brand and still be getting the same times. The tensions start to matter when you get around sub 20 and sub 15, just keep practicing and learn oll and pll.
