I've been solving Rubik's cubes for a little over 5 years now. I first learned the beginners method over thanksgiving break my freshman year of college. This was on an original Rubik/s brand cube that barely turned. I got my first speedcube the next week and haven't looked back since.
2 years in and I had plateaued at around 60 second solves with the beginners method. It was at this point that I started looking for a more advanced method to learn. I had heard of CFOP, but wasn't big on the number of algorithms I would need to learn even with 2 look. After some googling and YouTube watching I settled on learning Roux w/ 2 look CMLL. This only 9 algs, 2 of which I already knew. Fast forward to today, I solve a 3x3 in around 30 seconds and have started trying to learn full CMLL.
Other than 3x3 I also have 2x2 through 6x6, mega/giga/teraminx, pyramix, 3x3 ghost cube, and recently a grear ball. Outside of 3x3 I haven't ever really timed myself on any other puzzles.
And that's the story of my trip down the speedcubing rabbit hole.
