when beginning the fridrich method, if you're solving slow because you're practicing lookaheads, how long should you take to solve it, and when should you start solving faster??

umm.. kinda hard to explain. and i know everyone has their own personal preference on practice, but if i can have a general answer on looking ahead, it would be great.

my problem is looking ahead. if i can look ahead good, then i can get about sube-30ish instead of sub-36ish.

there is no set time what ive been doing (since last night) is going through my solve and trying to build a 2x2x2 block then xcross it or trying to do them at the same time.

and then for cases where the pairs together just one or both pieces are misoriented is reading the algs for f2l and then performing them watching how they work.

as far as time though i think that there is really no time limit, just practice until your comfortable with what your doing then try and speed up and eventually youll get the times you want and maybe better

From my understanding of looking ahead, you want to be looking for your next f2l pair while you are putting the previous one into place. The reason you slow down is so you can see the next pair you need to put into place so you don't have to stop and think, it can be one continous motion. With practice you will be able to find your pairs easier, and put them into place faster.

To answer your question, you will start to get faster with lots of practice, not just solving the cube slower. Watch when you put a pair into place, and how it moves the other cubies around, and try to track your next f2l pair.

Hope this helps.
