Does any brand sell octagonal prisms anymore?
Also after making the "house" shape with the edges, does Tony just glue on a cut corner to the center peaces?

When I made mine it wasn't perfectly square. Because of the edges making the house shape. Tonys is about 30mm while mine is 27mm, i had to sand it down to have it fit but i dont know how to have it like Tony's.

twistypuzzles.com is the go-to forum for building and modding custom puzzles. It might be tricky to make it look perfect if you're just cutting and gluing and sanding, but yes, you can make a Fisher cube that way. Look into using apoxie sculpt or some kind of plastic putty to smooth and fill the gaps if you want to look a bit better. Though if the sides are reasonably smooth and even, an awesome stickering job will make even a slightly sloppy puzzle look 100 times better.
