So how exactly do different cores affect cubes? as far as I can tell if a core keeps the screws from twisting when ur solving its good. I've tried switching cores in my cubes and they never feel different, and they all seem to be the same size.

So it always confuses me a little when ppl saying a putting a certain core in a cube will make it better, because I dont see how it can make a difference.

Same. I tried replacing the core in my YUGA type d cube with an old type A core, and I couldn't tell one bit of difference. But everyone talks like its some godly mod or something. Just WHAT advantage are you supposed to get from the core?

As far as I understand it, the core can sometimes end up contacting the cubies and causing lockups. It also affects the feel of the cube.

So would a smaller, skinnier core make the cube lockup a little less, amking it smoother?

sort of a guess, but i think thats right

I thought it was because Type D cores got stripped easily... As many Type D owners can attest.

Also, the old type A core was so common and popular, because it was one of the few types you could buy in large amounts, until the nylon core, and now, the c4y core.

thats the exact mod I tried and also couldn't notice a difference.

I thought that was just a problem with the new Type D's and the screws they use. The cube that has the D core in it is just fine.

If any pieces other than the center pieces are touching ur core, something might be wrong with the cube. :p and I don't think the centers touching the core could affect it enough for anyone to notice.

The Type A core is nylon.

Actually, it's easier to have pieces touch the "arms" of the core than you would think.

i think the core stretches/deforms slightly when you turn the cube, affecting the feel of the cube. stiff cores (storebought core, old A) makes the cube feel sturdy and strong, whereas soft cores (type c, maru blue, and rubik's diy) makes the cube feel crispy and springy. also, the screw wiggles slightly when you are turning the cube, so that's why an good storebought and a rubik's diy feels completely different.

I meant that bright yellow nylon core. The one that came after the type A.
