I solve white cross. If the white sticker is on FDR or FDL, how do you tell which color is on the down face without looking? i've seen several example solves where the cubers do not look at the down face yet they know that is the correct corner. is there a quick trick to recognize this?

e.g. with American color scheme, if i hold orange F, and blue on R, and white on D, and I have a white sticker on DFR and an orange sticker on RDF, then I know the bottom piece is blue. does anyone have any tricks to recognize this?

I guess I sort of came up with just now when explaining this is that if the color on R or L matches with the center color on F, then the corner is in the correct position but misoriented, otherwise, it belongs in another slot.

but what about if the corner is in another slot?

any advice on this?

Process of elimination. If you can see the other corner with those 2 colors than you'll know what the third color is. The same idea with the last f2l edges if they're in the back slots.

I suppose you could try some sort of recognition like you said by looking at how its turned but I've never tried that myself.
