Yes I saw that, I said that I didn't think the manner in which he was appointed was fair. Whether he deserved it or not.

I trust Pat to decide these things...it's his forum, I don't see any problem with just letting him pick the moderators.

Tim is, as usual, correct.

Clearly it's Pat's decision because it's his forum and he has exercised this right judiciously. He has only appointed people he felt were capable of handling the job and were competent, contributing members to the community. And David Woner.

I think that off topic threads should just be moved by moderators, but should not appear in the list of recently updated threads. Whenever I go to check for new posts the page seems to be filled with stupid "what method" or "how do I get faster" threads, and it gets pretty old.

From what I see, it is not because Lucas made this thread/suggestion that pjk decided to let him be a moderator. The thread simply triggered a thought that probably didn't come to pjk's mind all this while that Lucas would make a great moderator considering the contributions he has made to the forum.

I believe amos is correct here. Lucas made the observation that more moderation was needed, and he just happened to already be one of the top candidates for a new mod.
