Etymology of 3-style

Why did people originally call it 3-style? The method is just commutators, so I'm confused about what inspired the "style" portion of the name

I think it originated from this exact forum post.

It was common to call it "freestyle" when you used comms to do BLD. Three-style seems to be a pun on freestyle which stuck.

Style loosely implies speed optimal.

3-style is different from BH and 3 cycles as it is speed optimal.

Algs are rotationless and regripless.
