Edison over hyped? Too much prep?

Are Edison cubes over hyped? I think they are, just because they are hard to get and/or expensive.

I had a friend bring me back two white Edison cubes from Korea recently. Out of the box they were both horrible. They were stiff, and the stickers were all different. One of them was even missing all the blue sticker! They were so stiff it hurt my wrist to do R U R' U' x6.

So this weekend I decided to go to work on one. I took it apart. I cleaned it. There were a couple little plastic bumbs/warts I had to shave off with a knife. I put cubesmith stickers on it. I adjusted the tension. I had to work in CRC twice and then clean out the dust that generated. Then! Then the screws kept coming loose and popping the caps off. The core has no grip unless you tighten the screws down all the way, which is too tight. I then replaced the core with a cube4you core and adjusted the tension. I then had to flip a spring because it was making noise.

So now finally I have an OK cube. I think it will wear well. But man, that's a lot of preparation to have to do to get a decent cube! So much work!

I've used some well worn in Edisons and they are very nice. The problem is they have to be worn in and also they eventually wear out. there are lots of great cubes out there that it doesn't make sense to me to get a cube that has a window of opportunity.

Meh, I don't really like my Edison much. It sucks out of the box but worn in its ok, susposedly the company doesn't put as much work into making them anymore. Also mine has a REALLY bad habit of loosening the screws while I turn in and it pops/locks alot also :S
In my opinion the price for one isn't really worth it even though they are hard to come by :S

There's rumor that says the new run production of the Edison were fail. It stock about 30 of it last year, and all were great cubes.

This Februari I oreder again about 40 cubes, and the quality is very different. There are bumb and left over plastics that hand over the sides of the cube, the stickers are off centered, and they pop.

I decided to now stock them again for now, due to the issues. Tribox says the same too about the quality. So I guess you got the bad ones.

So the old Edisons were quite decent, but the newer ones aren't? Interesting.
