well i recieved my eastsheen 4x4x4 today, and i'm not very satisfied with it. i read about it, and heard it is ready for speedcubing right out of the box, but for some reason, it's very stiff. i can hardly move any face, and it's just not good at all. is this how it's supposed to be? i ordered it from meffert's. please comment!

No, it shouldn't be like that. I haven't ever ordered one from Meffert's, but the one I got a couple of months ago from cube4you is an absolute dream - it's my favorite cube of any type. I got an earlier one about 8 months ago from huskyomega, and it was not quite as nice; I figure it's just luck as to how good they are. But it was still pretty good - much better than any Rubik's Revenge I ever tried.

hmm.. maybe it's just meffert's? because i'm really dissapointed. and i also ordered a 5x5 from meffert's. if it is also as bad, then i don't know. i might just sell them and buy some from another site. sigh.. i was so excited when i saw the box.. but now i hate it =(

so has anyone else ordoered an eastsheen 4x4 from meffert's? if so, how's it like?

I got two eastsheen 4x4's and one eastsheen 5x5 from cube4you - both were amazing, right out of the box - I haven't even had to lube them yet.

I have several Eastsheen cubes and they were all amazing right from the start. I've never needed to lube them, and frankly I'm not too anxious to take them apart - they look like a real pain to put back together.

I can't imagine that an Eastsheen cube from Mefferts would be any different than an Eastsheen cube from anywhere else. I think you probably just got a bad one, and should send it back and ask for a replacement.

yeah i've already emailed him. just waiting for a reply =P. i hope i can send it back and get a new one. i can barely even turn it. i like the size and weight though. can't imagine the 5x5 being the same size

As most other people here, I haven't had any problem with the eastsheens. My eastsheens(2x2,4x4 and 5x5) are all way better than their Rubik's counterparts that I have.I haven't even disassembled any of these yet.I bought them from cube4you.com.

Guys... just spray the silicone in the Eastheens, I bet you are gonna love it.

I felt many crappy Eastheens just because they said that lube isn't needed.

I have had both 4x4 and 5x5 eastsheen i ordered from HuskyOmega. and palain and simple..... they SUCKED. absolutely sucked... :( okay maybe not the 5x5, but the 4x4 eastsheen SUCKED and always just kept on sucking :( truly HORRIBLE. i sprayed it over 4-6 times too or maybe even more so thats not the problem... *sigh* oh well maybe it was just a bad cube or something. I might order a 4x4 eastsheen off of cube4you.com after reading Mikes post though :) hmmm interesting......

I got a 4x4x4 and 5x5x5 Eastsheen from HuskyOmega too. My 4x4x4 one wasn't very good, but my 5x5x5 one was great. It's now too loose, so I don't like it much - it popped a few times and got too loose. So it only stayed good for 3 or 4 months. But those 3 or 4 months were great.

Derrick, I doubt if who you get it from really matters - it's probably just a matter of whether you get lucky or not. My 4x4x4 from cube4you was a lucky one, for sure.

I should probably add that I've never lubed any of my Eastsheens. I'm thinking of going to my old ones and lubing them to see what I think, but I'm scared to even try lubing my new ones, since they're so nice right now the way they are.

Mike, do this:

1, take the cap of one centre and remove the screew.

2, now you can hold the layer together and lift it of and place it as is on the table besides the cube.

3, use a file to grind down the tip of the spider some 1-2 mm (put a piece of stiff paper around the spider tip so the small plastic pieces you file of don't gets into the cube.)

4, put the layer back on and replace the screew + cap.

5, do the same for all sides.

After that you can adjust the tension as much as you like, even to a compleatly stiff cube.

I did this to my Es-5, that was too loose, some days ago and it is extreamly good now :)

While the cube is apart spray a load of silicone into it...

well the guy hasn't emailed me back for a about 3 days, so i'm gonna go ahead an lube the ES 4x4. i hope it goes well.

okay i just lubed it. it works pretty well, but it's also very noisy, especially when i move the inner slices. is there any way i can get rid of that?

yeah sorry about that. I wasnt intending that it was HuskyOmega's fault, i believe he has great puzzles, i think its just like you said, its all about luck or not. :)

There are so many weird parts inside a Es-4, it's not strange it sounds like that :P

Mike: it is not much work at all, say 3-4 minutes/side = a total of 20-25 something.
