Is there any other purpose to a DIY Kit than to save the trouble of removing stock stickers when applying new ones and disassembling to tension and lube?

I prefer DIY so that I can lube the screw/spring assembly. I've never yet seen a pre-assembled cube with lubed springs, and spring noise is common. Also I can make sure the screws go in straight. With a pre-assembled cube I often end up dismantling it anyway to properly lube it, but there's a risk the core won't hold the screws as soundly after they have been removed and replaced.

I prefer DIY because I don't need to deal with the factory lube, and I can lubricate the core easier. Also, I can substitute the core if need be.

i go so far as to remove every singly piece of flashing and then put pieces together that fit together the best, also its nice not have to pull it apart to lube the core. it took me 7 hours to redo a Moyu LingPo. and about 2 hours to build a DIY 3x3. i stay away from stickered cubes because that adds sooo much time taking off the stickers.

Depends on the cube. For example ShengShou DIYs would be highly appreciated, as the assembly process in the factory is just horrid. Screws come stripped and assembled in angles. When you DIY you can make sure that everything is installed correctly.

For cheap cubes I'd go with DIY as usually low price equals low build quality. One con with buying DIY from cheap brands is that there is a somewhat high risk of receiving a bag of pieces with some of them missing. So you cant assemble the puzzle. With assembled puzzles youre atleast sure that all the pieces are included (usually.. shengshou puzzles still come with missing washers etc).
