Discovery Science Center competition 2008 Results

They were taking turns competing at the same spot with the same timer, that was pretty funny.

DSC 2008 was really great. I met tons of nice people there and had a blast. Congratulations, Lucas, on winnining the blindfolded competition. I have to say that because we didn't get to see that you won on Saturday. so everyone better congratulate you now, lol.

Ah, but as for my results: I complete screwed up my all of my 3x3x3 solves. I got a 23 second average and a 20 second best at the competition(which is way better than the 31 second average at DSC last year) but the solves were very inconsistent, especially in the final round where I got three 26 second times! But I was very happy with my 3x3x3 0H times. My times in order were: 38.93 (44.89) 38.21 43.84 (36.44). I actually proved that I can get sub-40s in competition! I thought they were going to be like the sub-20s I get with two hands which I wasn't able to get in competition at DSC 2008 or San Diego 2007, but I was actually able to pull three of them off... and end with a 40 second average, lol. Oh well, I guess I'll get a sub-40 average the next time.

Overall, the experience was really great and I made some great new cubing friends. I really wanted to race Jun one more time before we left as he really is an amazing cuber(he pulled off a 16 second time in his first competition!) but we had to rush out the door so I lost track of him. However, I got in some great 2x2x2 races with Kevin and Chad who were also attending a competition for the first time - I even got to race them using one-hand while they used two which was very fun. There were some annoying people like a guy who was very loud about counting all the people he was supposedly better then(and in the end he pulled off bad times but still proclaimed he was better than a ton of people) but everyone else was very nice. Oh yeah, a few of the younger kinds(between 11 and 15) got to be in a Rubik's Cube DVD! I was the only 15-year-old I think, lol. If anyone knows anything about that DVD please send me a PM. I really have no idea when it is going to be out.

Oh yeah - I had some fun with Lucas's Square-1! No I really want to buy one. Too bad he didn't compete in the Square-1. I would have that a guy that made animations of Square-1 moves would compete in that event.

Umm, do you mean Dan? The only average I see that seems to match is Dan's first-round average, which was 20.84 (fourth in the world) and had a 25.18 last solve time.

Yea that's what he meant.

At my first competition(caltech fall 07) I witnessed, Chris breaking the world record. I thought at this competition I would witness Dan do the same thing, after I saw his PLL skip 19 sec solve (3rd solve i think).
