I don't usually make new threads, so here goes...

I was messing around with various liquids I had laying around in the house when I remembered I had some trombone lubricant.

Below is a sloppy video describing what it is. You can skip it if you want. The description is probably more important.

Thought I'd share this.

Some thoughts:

The lube responds very similarly to Lubix (and therefore Diff Lube, I would imagine).

Slide-O-Mix is $10 on Amazon for just the 50mL bottle.

I forgot to mention that I lubed the core of another cube as well, and it works phenomenally.

Application is easy and really clean, although it is really thick.

The compound is dimethylsiloxane, used in most silicone-based lubes. Slide-o-mix consists mainly of this, but it's emulsified with a synthetic fat.

Other puzzles I've tried this on (with results):
Maru 3x3 VI DIY: +
Rubik's Storebought: +/0
Leapo 3x3: 0
Dayan Guhong Old Type: +
Dayan Guhong New Stickerless: +

Final statement: You can definitely try this out for yourself. I don't know how it responds to other sized puzzles (big cubes, minxes, etc).

You can buy it here

You can get diff lube for $6.50, for the 50mL, and probably is easier to find/get locally; but still good to know. :)

Does it work better than diff lube or last longer?

Like I said in the video, I've never tried diff lube. I've only used lubix and shock oil.

I think it performs slightly worse than lubix but better than shock oil.

I don't know how long it lasts seeing as I lubed it today. I'm guessing quite a while, given it's viscosity.

:( How long have you been playing?

A little over 4 years. I only play it for jazz. I used to play tuba for brass quintet and ensemble.

Instruments:
baritone - 2-3 years, switched to tuba
trombone - 4+ years
tuba - 5+ years, quit. I don't have the money to buy my own :(
trumpet - 1+ years (I'm not very good)
piano - around 11 years
